Even if your new apartment isn't right in the center of town, you'll probably spend a great deal of time in Downtown Gainesville. After all, this area is a hub for trendy eateries, bars, art galleries, and concerts!
So, what exactly can you do here?
If you're a history buff, you'll want to spend some time checking out Matheson Museum. Located on University Avenue, this museum is devoted to showing off Alachua County's history. Whether you want to look at 19th century photos that depict all of the amazing growth this part of the state had, or you want to see what the local social clubs were doing decades ago, you'll find it all here. The non-profit museum also hosts a number of events throughout the year, so it's always easy to get your history fix!
If you want to combine Gainesville's history with some entertainment, head to the Hippodrome State Theater. Located a few blocks south of University Avenue, the Hippodrome is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Inside, you'll find a variety of live productions and films that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Once football season rolls around, you'll definitely want to get out of your Gainesville apartment and head downtown! Whenever the Gators are playing at home, Downtown Gainesville turns into a post-game party. Whether you want to head to an Irish Pub for an ice cold beer or celebrate a big win with a night of dancing, this is the place to do it.
What if you're just looking for a good place to eat?
If you're tired of cooking in your Gainesville apartment, just head downtown! Here, you'll find everything from seafood, to Spanish cuisine, to prime rib, to juicy burgers. No matter what kind of budget you're working with, you'll be able to find a delicious and trendy place to eat.
If you want to make your at-home meals a little healthier, head to the Union Street Farmers' Market. Five dozen vendors set up shop at the Market, so you'll be able to find goodies that appeal to every taste bud! Be sure to keep the Plaza on your to-do list, even when the farmers' market isn't open, though. That's because it's also home to a number of concerts and festivals throughout the year. So, no matter what you're in the mood for, you'll find it here!
Best of all, the downtown area is just a short car ride away from most Gainesville apartments. Or, if you're lucky, you might find an apartment complex that's within walking distance to all of this fun!
